Sanday Men’s Shed participates in national Shed Open Doors event during Men’s Health Week 2026

Sanday Men’s Shed is inviting the local community to step inside and discover what Men’s Sheds are all about during Men’s Health Week (13th – 21st June 2026), as part of national Shed Open Doors Week 2026.

Run by the Scottish Men’s Sheds Association (SMSA), Scotland’s leading men’s health and wellbeing charity, Shed Open Doors Week celebrates the positive impact Men’s Sheds have on men and their communities across the country. The national event provides an opportunity for local people, social prescribers, health professionals, and organisations to visit their local Shed, meet members, and see first-hand how Sheds support men’s health, wellbeing, and social connection.

Previously, SMSA’s Shed Open Doors Day was held annually on 19 November to mark International Men’s Day, but following consultation with the charity’s member Sheds across Scotland, the SMSA has moved the national event to June to provide more opportunities for Sheds to open, better weather, flexibility, and allow for outdoor activities such as demonstrations and barbecues.

As a proud SMSA member and part of a growing movement of over 212 Sheds across all 32 local authority areas, Sanday Men’s Shed will welcome visitors on Saturday 13th in the afternoon from 13:00, showcasing the activities, projects, skills, and camaraderie that make our Shed such an important and growing part of our local community here on Sanday. That being said anyone is always welcome to call in at any time we are open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons.

Francis Edwards, Communications Officer said:

“Men’s Sheds are welcoming community spaces where men can connect, share skills, and support one another. They play a vital role in improving men’s health and wellbeing and tackling social isolation and loneliness. Our Shed is becoming an important part of the Sanday island Community.

Visitors are encouraged to drop in, have a cuppa, meet members, and learn more about how Men’s Sheds are helping men live healthier, happier, and more connected lives.
